Historian. Educator. Analyst.

My sidekick Chloe and I in our forest home base: Yellowwood State Forest, Indiana.

Historian

I am a historian of environment, science, and development in East-Central Europe with broad competencies and a specialization in Romanian economic and public policy. My research historicizes scientific approaches to forest management and resource extraction, as well as rural economic development. I shed light on the past to explain contemporary policy, approaches to development and business, and socio-ecological dynamics that today serve as both opportunities and battlefields. My dissertation research shed light on the history of forestry, its local impacts, and the forest products industry in Romania.

Educator

I am an educator devoted to spreading an enduring global consciousness and serving the needs of my students and clients. To seize opportunities and appreciate the world and people around us, we must first understand the connections that bring us together. At the same time, the divisions which set us apart can only be bridged through a thorough and critical understanding, leading to opportunities to form new connections and networks. As an educator of the contemporary world and the European and global past, I offer a unique and rigorous curriculum. At the same time, I bring new perspectives to bare on the education of my students, integrate digital humanities and mapping, and mobilize the latest in evidence-based pedagogical practices to ensure equity and success in the classroom.

I am also an advisor to my students. I work alongside them to set common goals, develop work and study strategies, and help them strive toward self-sufficiency while maintaining critical and open minds.
